When I bring up Synapse and attempt to connect to the Emotiv Epoch, sometimes it makes a connection and sometimes it does not. I do Search to request it find the wireless connection to the Emotiv and it sometimes finds it and other times does not find it. The Emotiv is on and using the Epoch SW, I have a good connection. Any ideas why this might be happening or what I need to do to consistently make the connection.

Thanks for your message.

Official support for Emotiv under Puzzlebox Synapse was never actually released to the public. You can however find references Emotiv in our source code here:

http://synapse.puzzlebox.info/tracker/browser/trunk/Puzzlebox/Synapse/Emotiv/Client.py

and here:

http://synapse.puzzlebox.info/tracker/browser/trunk/Puzzlebox/Synapse/Emotiv/Server.py

What is missing is Puzzlebox.Synapse.Emotiv.Protocol, which was only offered as part of our commercial product, Puzzlebox Jigsaw. This library is necessary to correctly parse the data returned by Emotiv's algorithms.

Without going into detail, there were some licensing concerns around our GPL v2 code linking to Emotiv's closed SDK. If you can provide more information about your intended use (through this forum or privately off-list if you prefer) then we could perhaps approach Emotiv to see if there's a happy solution.
